Tom McCoy was born and raised on Long Island, NY and was given the gift of theater by his parents at a very young age. From the moment he saw his first Broadway production, he knew that he would have a life long love of theater.

Tom attended Greensboro College, in North Carolina with a major in Technical Theater, focused on Carpentry and Technical Direction. Prior to his graduation in 2006, he joined with Triad Stage, a regional theater in Greensboro, as their Carpenter. Tom stayed with Triad Stage for 5 seasons, earning the title of Master Carpenter and given the opportunity to take on the mantle of Technical Director in their UpStage Cabaret.

In 2012 Tom, with his wife Jennie, moved back to Long Island to begin his career in academia at Adelphi University.  In the Summer of 2016 Tom accepted a position as the Technical Director/Shop Supervisor for Hofstra University's Department of Drama and Dance.

As of March 2023, Tom has returned to the Triad in NC with his wife, Jennie, and two children, Kaylee and Aiden. He's currently the Technical Director for UNCG's School of Theatre.
